Get early access

Join the waitlist and we'll email you the moment FOOZ opens.

We store your email address only to contact you about early access. See the Privacy Policy.

Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information FOOZ collects, why we collect it, who we share it with and what control you have. It covers the FOOZ waitlist as it operates today, and sets out what will change when the full service launches.

If you only read one section, read Section 1. It is an honest summary of a very small amount of data.

On this page▾

1. The Short Version

Right now FOOZ is a waitlist. The only personal information we hold about you is the email address you gave us, the time you gave it, the page you gave it on, and the exact consent wording you agreed to.

We ask for that consent with an unticked box, because we only want to email people who actually want to hear from us. You can withdraw it at any time by emailing legal@fooz.io or using the unsubscribe link in any email, and we will delete your record.

We do not run analytics or advertising trackers on this site, we do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use your content to train AI models. The rest of this policy explains the detail, including what will change once the full service launches.

2. Who We Are and How to Reach Us

FOOZ is the controller of the personal information described here. For any privacy question, request or complaint, contact legal@fooz.io.

Because FOOZ is built for cross-border reach, we expect users in the European Union and the United Kingdom. Where we are required to appoint a representative under Article 27 of the UK and EU GDPR, we will name them here before we begin offering the service in those markets.

If you are in the EEA or UK and you think we have handled your information badly, you may complain to your local supervisory authority. We would appreciate the chance to put it right first.

3. What We Collect

Today, on the waitlist, we collect:

  • Your email address.
  • The date and time you signed up, the page URL you signed up from, and the exact wording of the consent you agreed to. We keep these to prove the consent was validly obtained, as data-protection law requires.
  • Basic server log data generated by any web request, including IP address and browser user-agent, kept briefly for security and abuse prevention.

Once the full service launches we will additionally collect:

  • Content you upload — video, audio, images, recipe text — and anything derived from it, such as transcripts, translations and generated Outputs.
  • Account details: name, password credentials, billing information handled by our payment processor, and the languages and markets you select.
  • Usage data: which features you use, processing job records, and error diagnostics.

We will update this policy, with notice, before any of that second category starts being collected.

5. Voice, Likeness and Biometric Data

This section does not apply to the waitlist. It is here so you know our position before you ever upload anything.

Cooking videos contain faces and voices. Depending on how it is processed, that can be biometric information under laws including the EU and UK GDPR Article 9, the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act and the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act.

FOOZ processes audio to transcribe and translate speech. We do not perform facial recognition, speaker identification, voice-print enrolment or any other biometric identification, and we do not create biometric templates from your uploads. If we ever intend to introduce a feature that would, we will obtain the separate written consent those laws require before capture, and we will say so plainly rather than burying it in an update.

6. AI Processing and Model Training

We will not use your content to train, fine-tune or otherwise develop general-purpose or foundation AI models, whether our own or any third party's. We do not sell or license your content to any third party for model training. This is the same commitment made in Section 5 of the Terms, repeated here so it is binding in both places.

Your content is sent to third-party AI providers only to perform the task you requested — transcription, translation, generation — and our contracts require them not to retain it for their own training.

A small amount of human review may occur where you report a problem, where we are investigating suspected abuse, or where safety requires it. Access is limited to staff who need it and is logged.

7. Who We Share With

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

We share it only with service providers acting on our instructions, in these categories: email delivery; cloud hosting and storage; and, once the service launches, speech recognition, machine translation, large language model providers, content delivery, payment processing, and error monitoring.

Today the waitlist involves exactly two subprocessors: Vercel Inc. (United States), which hosts this site and processes server logs, and Supabase, Inc. (United States), which stores the waitlist database. No other provider receives your email address.

We give advance notice before adding a new subprocessor that would process your content. We may also disclose information where legally compelled, or to protect the rights and safety of users and the public — and we will tell you unless we are prohibited from doing so.

If FOOZ is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may transfer as part of it. You will be notified, and the acquirer will be bound by commitments no weaker than these.

8. International Transfers

FOOZ is operated from the United States and our providers may process data in the United States and the European Union.

Where we transfer personal information out of the EEA or UK, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses together with the UK Addendum, and we assess whether the destination's laws undermine that protection before transferring.

You can request a copy of the safeguards we use by emailing legal@fooz.io.

9. How Long We Keep Things

Waitlist records are kept until the earlier of: you withdraw consent or unsubscribe; twelve months after launch; or twenty-four months from signup if FOOZ has not launched by then. After that they are deleted.

Server logs are kept for up to 30 days.

Uploaded content and Outputs, once the service launches, are kept while your account holds them. After deletion or account closure they leave active systems promptly and age out of routine backups within 30 days.

We keep limited billing and tax records for as long as the law requires, and records needed to defend a legal claim until it is resolved.

10. Your Rights

Wherever you live, you may email legal@fooz.io to exercise any right below. We respond within the time the applicable law allows, and we will not treat you worse for asking.

If the EU or UK GDPR applies to you, you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to processing, receive it in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time.

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what we collect and why, to delete it, to correct it, to opt out of sale or sharing, and to limit use of sensitive personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of — but we honour Global Privacy Control signals sent by your browser regardless. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information beyond the purposes permitted without a limitation right.

Residents of other US states with comprehensive privacy laws have comparable rights, and we apply the same process to all of them.

11. Cookies and Similar Technologies

This site currently sets no analytics, advertising or profiling cookies, and no third-party trackers. Because only strictly necessary technologies are in use, no consent banner is required under the ePrivacy Directive.

If we later add analytics or advertising technologies, we will present a consent banner with a “Reject all” control as prominent and as easy to reach as “Accept all”, and we will not set those cookies before you choose.

Full detail, including a table of anything we set, is in the Cookie Policy.

12. Children

FOOZ is for adults. You must be 18 or over, and the Service is not directed at children.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact legal@fooz.io and we will delete it.

13. Notice at Collection (California)

This notice is given at or before the point of collection as required by California Civil Code section 1798.100(b).

  • Category collected: identifiers — specifically, your email address, plus internet activity information in the form of the signup page URL, timestamp and server logs.
  • Purpose: to contact you about FOOZ early access, and to keep a record proving your consent.
  • Sold or shared: no. We do not sell or share personal information, including for cross-context behavioural advertising.
  • Sensitive personal information: none collected.
  • Retention: as set out in Section 9 above.

14. Changes to This Policy, and Contact

We will update this policy as FOOZ develops — most significantly when the full service launches and content processing begins. The “last updated” date below always reflects the current version.

For material changes we give advance notice by email or in the product, and where the change requires your consent we will ask for it rather than assume it.

Questions, requests and complaints: legal@fooz.io.
